Please note that after an auction has been extended, each new bid sets a new auction end time.

This particular auction is currently set to end Saturday, 4/20/24, at 9am ET.

If someone bids after 9pm ET Friday, 4/19/24, then the auction end time will be reset to 12 hours after the most recent bid. This is to prevent people from sniping the auction at the last second.

So if someone bids at 9:01pm ET on Friday, 4/19/24, the new auction end time will be 9:01am ET Saturday, 4/20/24.

Other auctions may have shorter extension windows, but in all of our auctions, last minute bids extend the deadline.

Hi! I would love to bid on an auction, but do I have to pay the money up front and then if I don’t win, I have to bid again and then pay that new, bigger amount? It’s confusing.

      Hi Julia, thanks for asking!
Every bid is a non-refundable donation to The Curve. If your bid is the highest bid at the end of the auction, then you get to claim the reward!
If you want, You can earn free bids as well:
      – by being one of the early bidders in any new auction.
      – by sharing the auction with your network. If any of the folks you share your link with sign up and place a paid bid, you earn a free bid.

Good luck, and thanks for your interest!

    Hi Goodbids Team!
Firstly, what a wonderful fundraising idea this is!
Question for you… is there a finite number of times the deadline gets extended?

I have a question about how bidding works. If I make a donation of the next amount, which right now is $630, I understand I’m making a $630 donation. But if I’m then outbid and want to bid again, would I need to donate another $650 or just an additional $20 to once again be the highest bidder?

      1. seth Godin Avatar

Hi Lindsey. Each bid is a brand new donation, unrelated to the bid that came before.

Can I please confirm this isn’t exclusive to US residents? I live in Europe. Also I assume we will be able to record the podcast for video and audio channels?

Please clarify extension rules as it’s very unclear. There is an hour left. Are you saying a bid within this hour will create an extension again? What’s the end date?

The way this is set up, it is my understanding that there is no expiry on the auction which means what exactly? If every time there is a bid it’s extended by 12 hours why bid to be outbid? It will never end. Kindly confirm the terms and conditions so we all know when the donating ends.

This is a great question, Sophia!

Yes, you’re correct, any bid at this point in the auction extends the end time to 12 hours past the most recent bid.

It’s up to each bidder in every auction to figure out their own strategy re: how long to wait to place their best, highest bid.

Thanks for your interest in this auction!

The strategy as it is, means that you never win the bid. If you don’t have a definitive deadline, this is not an auction. People must know there is a cut-off otherwise the house always wins. If you run this indefinitely until people stop bidding, there really is no purpose to the auction. This could never end which renders the prize itself intangible. Shame.

          Hi Sophia

until eBay, this is actually how every standard auction in the world worked. Going, going, gone is the auctioneer figuring out if anyone else is waiting to bid. If someone bids, the auction keeps going!

If this model works for you, great. But we understand it’s not for everyone.

Disagree Sophia, I think it’s a brilliant concept as the prize finds its own value in a bidding market. It means that holding onto your money until the last minute for one chance is unlikely to work. This prize and the others on the site should be worth much more than one bid. I love the idea

So if I bid twice does it add up both of my bids together?
